Instagram provides three kinds of profiles: Personal, Business, and Creator. Initially, every Instagram account is set up as a Personal profile. However, you can change your account type whenever you wish. Due to certain restrictions imposed by Instagram, full access to DotSimple's features like engagement, analytics, and direct publishing is only available to Business profiles.
To take full advantage of Instagram features via DotSimple, it's essential that your Business profile be linked to a Facebook Page. This requirement stems from Facebook's ownership of Instagram. DotSimple gains the necessary permissions to manage your Instagram account through this Facebook connection. You're not required to post to your Facebook Page to use these Instagram features.
For further details on profile types and how to identify yours, refer to our Overview of Instagram profiles.
Before You Start
To transition your Instagram account to a Business profile, ensure the following:
You have a Facebook Page to which you can link your Instagram account.
You can only connect one Instagram profile to a single Facebook Page, and vice versa. If you need a new Facebook Page, check Facebook's guidelines on creating one.
Confirm you have appropriate permissions (see the Facebook help article "See your Facebook Page role or access"):
Facebook Page Classic: Admin or Editor roles are necessary.
New Facebook Page Experience: Full or partial control is required.
Facebook Business Manager: You need management access to your Page. See Facebook's help section for more details. Add more people to your Business Manager.
Steps to Convert
Open the Instagram app on your mobile device and navigate to your profile.
Tap on the menu icon in the top right corner and go to Settings > Account.
For a Personal account, select "Switch to professional account," then pick "Business."
For a Creator account, choose "Switch account type," then "Switch to business account."
Follow Instagram's guidelines to link your account to your Facebook Page.
